As of now, the Catalan community residing in America has a radio made for it. This is the Radio America Barcelona (RAB). Created to strengthen the bond between Catalans residing in America and Catalonia, the RAB has its headquarters in the Catalan capital, and branches in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Quito and Mexico City.
Currently, it is estimated that more than 150 Catalans live in some part of America, and that there are more than half a million children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Catalans living on the continent.
Ràdio Amèrica Barcelona already has its own website (www.rab.cat), plus a mobile app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…). Your listeners will have access to programs more focused on the world of Catalan music, culture and sport.
One of the most anticipated programs is the Catalunya Sardanist, produced in Barcelona. The radio will also have several programs produced by Catalan entities more active in the Americas.
Commitment of Aqui Catalunha with catalanity
The readers of Aqui Catalunha have, from now on, the chance to listen to the songs and programs on the new radio. It is located below the “Latest news” section (for those who access through any news, whether on the computer or on the cell phone), and under the “Inside Catalonia” section (for those who access the portal from the main page).
This is yet another commitment signed by our portal with catalanity. Recently, we started covering, in the long term, the main events in the Catalonia Nord, a region located in the south of France, but linked to Catalonia from the historical and cultural aspects.
Catalunya Nord played a key role in one of the most remarkable events in Catalan history. Without it, voting in the self-determination referendum on October 1, 2017 it wouldn't have been possible. This story will be explained on our portal.
Currently, the Aqui Catalunha is a member of FRIEND, the Associació Mitjans d'Informació i Comunicació, having been the first non-Catalan means of communication to take part. In addition, our portal is an informative contributor to government delegation of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Portugal.
